IPL 2021 will be of eight teams. All the franchises have released the IPL 2021 Players Retentions List before the IPL 2021 Auction. IPL 2021 Auction is likely to be take place in the month of February.

Here is the IPL 2021 Players Retentions List:
  • Delhi Capitals: They reached to the IPL 2020 Finals. But, they still have released five players. While two players have been traded by them to RCB.

Players Released: Alex Carey, Keemo Paul, Sandeep Lamichhane, Tushar Deshpande, Mohit Sharma, Jason Roy.

Delhi Capitals Squad: Shreyas Iyer (c), Ajinkya Rahane, Amit Mishra, Avesh Khan, Axar Patel, Ishant Sharma, Kagiso Rabada, Prithvi Shaw, R Ashwin, Rishabh Pant, Shikhar Dhawan, Lalit Yadav, Marcus Stoinis, Shimron Hetmyer, Anrich Nortje, Pravin Dubey, and Chris Woakes.

Players Traded: Harshal Patel and Daniel Sams

  • Royal Challengers Bangalore: They have released 10 players. Parthiv Patel recently took the decision of retirement from all forms of cricket. So, he misses out from their squad. However, he will be working with Mumbai Indians as their Talent Scout. They will also be missing the experience of their leading pacer Dale Steyn who decided to opt out of the tournament. They have traded in two all-rounders (Daniel Sams and Harshal Patel) from Delhi Capitals squad.

  • Sunrisers Hyderabad: They reached to the third spot in the IPL 2020. Where they got defeated by DC.

  • Mumbai Indians: They are the most successful franchise in the Indian Premier League. Because they have won the tournament five times which is most by any team. They defeated Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2020 Finals. But, the main highlight was the release of their one of their most experienced and dependable bowler Lasith Malinga.

  • Kolkata Knight Riders: They have released five players from their squad. They have retained the likes of Dinesh Karthik and Andre Russel who had a disappointing last season.

  • Chennai Super Kings: They have released six players from their squad. Shane Watson has taken the retirement from all forms of cricket. So, he is the most obvious one who misses out. They have shown faith in Suresh Raina and they have decided to retain him. Although, he skipped the tournament last year due to personal reasons.

  • Rajasthan Royals: They have released their skipper Steve Smith from their squad. It was a big decision and they have appointed Sanju Samson as their new captain. However, it seems like they want an Indian captain to lead this season. It will be interesting to seem him in the captaincy role. This responsibility can make him a big player. Kumar Sangakkara will be the Director of Cricket for Rajasthan Royals.

  • Kings XI Punjab: They have released nine players. Out of which, Glenn Maxwell and Sheldon Cottrell are the most expensive players they have brought last season.

Franchises haven’t shown faith in the top guns (Lasith Malinga, Glenn Maxwell, Chris Morris, Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell and Sheldon Cotrell). That is the reason they have decided to release them from IPL 2021 Players Retentions List. RCB and Kings XI Punjab have released ten and nine players. Both of them are looking to build the team again. So that they can take them ahead in the tournament.
