Suryakumar Ashok Yadav is an Indian Cricketer, (born on the14 of September 1990). He has been playing for the Mumbai Indians team in the Indian premium league since 2017. He is a wonderful and talented right-hand batsman who can sometimes be a good bowler too. Suryakumar has been playing in the Indian Premier League since 2012. When he first received the contract from the Mumbai Indians team. However, he did not play throughout the season. Since the team already consisted of talented and experienced veteran players back then.
Yadav earlier played for the Kolkata night rider’s teams for 3 years before he started playing for the Mumbai Indians. Suryakumar made a debut in the 2010-11 Ranji seasons when he played against Delhi for a Mumbai team. He started his career with a great start, scoring 73 runs. Since then, he has consistently delivered a reasonably good performance in every season.
Suryakumar Yadav was also the most expensive uncapped player in the 2018 IPL auction. Where he was bought by the Mumbai Indians team.
He recently played a match-winning knock against the Royal Challengers Bangalore team. Where he scored 79 runs from 43 balls, this IPL season. Overall, Suryakumar has been a part of 96 IPL matches. Ever since he started playing for the league in 2012. He has made about 1830 runs including 9 half-centuries. The 30-year-old right-handed batsman has also made about 3300 runs including 17 half-centuries while playing T20 cricket.
However, Suryakumar Yadav was not selected to be a part of India’s white-ball squad. But, he is yet to earn his spot on the Indian team. Despite showcasing his talent consistently by scoring good runs in the Indian premium league as well as domestic cricket. We found out that he was left out of the national squad for the Australia tour. The selectors decided not to include him.
Meanwhile, Yadav’s absence from the team stirred up some curiosity catching some limelight, among cricket lovers. Many players including Veteran off-spinner Harbhajan Singh raised queries on the decisions taken by the Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) selection policy after the Mumbai-born IPL player didn’t make it to the national team. The talented bowler Harbhajan Singh, seemed pretty baffled after Mumbai Indians’ talented Yadav didn’t make the cut. Despite his consistent efforts while performing for his team, this IPL season.
Harbhajan displayed his disappointment with the BCCI in a tweet on Twitter, saying he didn’t know what more the talented Surya Kumar Yadav had to do, to catch the selecting committee’s attention and earn himself a spot on the Indian cricket team. Bhajji also claimed that Yadav has been performing well in the Ranji season as well as the IPL every season. Harbhajan publically requests all the selectors through this social media platform, to see SKY’s previous records.
Where is the vacancy?
Suryakumar, being the consistent player that he is, can deliver anytime, anywhere. But the most important question that’s running in the minds is “where is the vacancy?”
The Indian cricket team has more than four-five openers or middle-order batsmen. Amid this scenario, making a spot for any newcomer becomes challenging. It seems like there is no empty spot on the white ball team, as of now. It is next to impossible to earn a spot into the 15-member squad or the final eleven.
Sources also claim that Suryakumar’s recent performances made him a strong contender in the eyes of the selecting authorities. But, they seemed to have taken a step back. Due to a few inconsistencies in Yadav’s performances nearing the selection meeting.
Two half-centuries were all Yadav scored, right before the team selection meeting among the BCCI. If Surya Kumar would have played a few more matches, finishing off with a good score and a few fancy boundaries here and there. His record would have been hard to miss. Then the possibility of his selection would have been more likely. Batsman Sanju Samson also experienced the same despite being an India A regular. When he was not selected to play in the Indian cricket team for almost four years. Due to these few inconsistencies.
Ravi Shastri’s take on Suryakumar Ashok Yadav:
The Indian head coach Ravi Shastri spoke a few words of encouragement to Yadav when he impressed us in IPL this season. He insisted that Yadav needs to be strong and patient. Ravi states that the Indian middle-order looks perfect right now. It might be quite difficult for the 30-year-old Yadav to get in at this given time.
He said that the team has pretty versatile players right now. We have a good mix of good batsmen, bowlers, and quite a few all-rounders. Ravi Shastri informs in an interview that there were about 3 to 4 more consistent and talented players. Like Surya Kumar Yadav who remains in the queue to play for the country. However, it becomes almost impossible for them to get an opportunity since there might not be a spot. Due to the already existing talent in our cricket team.
Mr. Ravi Shastri recalls that time in his career when good domestic players were knocking on doors by scoring immense runs. But, it was very difficult for anyone to suddenly penetrate the order. Because players were already certain of their place on the team. He says that one needs to be dedicated and persistent with the quality of the game they deliver. While simultaneously being patient as they can get that life-changing call anytime.
All Surya Kumar can do right now is take the head coach’s advice and wait for his turn. While piling up those runs and being dedicated to his passion for the game of cricket. And, all we cricket lovers can do is to give good wishes to him for the future.
